We send you detailed directions when you book. Please note that SatNav systems are confusing between Ambleside and Hawkshead Hill because they route you by narrow lanes with poor signage. Better to follow our directions.
Hatter's Cottage is located on the edge of the hamlet of Hawkshead Hill, a mile from the village of Hawkshead by footpath, and a bit more by road. From its position on the north side of the hamlet Hatter's Cottage has uninterrupted views across fields to the mountains above Ambleside. The hamlet occupies a hollow on the hillside which leads up to High Cross, on the watershed between the Coniston and Esthwaite valleys east of Windermere lake. High Cross car park provides access to the enormous expanse of Grizedale Forest whose numerous footpaths and tracks, all open to the public, provide spectacular views of the mountains above Coniston Water and Windermere.
